SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

THE EDWARDS-DIMON MEMORIAL FELLOWSHIP AT CSU PATRON: The Edwards-Dimon Memorial Fellowship was formally established in 2005-06 at Columbus State University (CSU), Columbus, GA. The late Miss Mary Dimon was a long-time member of the Columbus Branch AAUW. An alumna of Columbia University with an M.A. degree, she taught in the Muscogee County School District for many years. A dedicated advocate for equity for women and girls, Miss Dimon wished the bequest be made in honor of her mother, Margaret Edwards Dimon.
ELIGIBILITY: The recipient of this fellowship is a female, undergraduate student who (1) has earned up to 60 semester hours including a minimum of 36 semester hours earned at CSU; (2) maintains an academic load of at least 9 hours per semester; (3) possesses a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better; and (4) continues her education at CSU.
AWARD: Educational expenses totaling $1200 (paid in two $600 increments in the Fall and Spring semesters). If selected, award will be made upon receipt of enrollment schedule for each of the two semesters.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION: Postmarked no later than August 1, 2015 or sent via courier service by August 1, 2015. Complete application packages (application form, CSU transcript with registrar’s seal and essay) will be reviewed and finalists will be contacted for an interview prior to final selection of an awardee.

THE ELIZABETH McTAGGART MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AT CSU PATRON: The Elizabeth McTaggart Memorial Scholarship was inaugurated in 1987-88 at Columbus College, now Columbus State University. The late Miss McTaggart, who held an M.S. degree from Auburn University, was president of the Columbus Branch AAUW in 1965-67. She taught in the Muscogee County School district from which she retired after many years of distinguished service. It was her wish that part of her estate fund the educational, charitable service of AAUW for the advancement of other women in our community.
ELIGIBILITY: The recipient of this fellowship is a female, undergraduate student who is (1) an Adult Re-Entry student (minimum 5-year hiatus since H.S. graduation/GED); (2) has earned up to 30 semester hours at CSU; (3) maintains an academic load of at least 9 hours per semester; (4) possesses a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better; and (5) continues her education at CSU.
AWARD: Educational expenses totaling $1000 (paid in two $500 increments in the Fall and Spring semesters). If selected, award will be made upon receipt of enrollment schedule for each of the two semesters.

THE MATTIE C. THOMAS MEMORIAL TEXTBOOK SCHOLARSHIP TO CSU (HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES) PATRON: The Mattie C. Thomas Memorial Textbook Scholarship was formally established in 1998-99 at Columbus State University. It was funded by Dr. Samuel Charleston, Principal at Carver High School 1963-70, as a memorial to his sister, a life member of AAUW and a pioneer in integration for education. Ms. Thomas was affiliated with the Columbus Branch AAUW from 1968 until her death in 1997. She held a B.S. from then Fort Valley State College and earned her M.A. and Ed.S. from Columbia University. She taught mostly in New York but lived the rest of her life in Columbus, GA.
ELIGIBILITY: The recipient of this textbook scholarship is an outstanding female high school graduate entering CSU (1) from a Muscogee County public high school; (2) H.S. GPA of 3.0 or higher; (3) who is classified as a Freshman CSU student and (4) continues her education at CSU.
AWARD: Total of $350. If selected, award will be made upon receipt of enrollment schedule at CSU.

Complete application packages (application form, H.S. transcript, CSU acceptance letter and essay) will be reviewed and finalists will be contacted for an interview prior to final selection of an awardee.
